Triplogs / Triplog#15-Day 1 / Day 2

Rain(IN) - Islet - Islet - Rain(OUT)
Day 2
I slept quite well, and woke up around 7:30am to overcast, and a dampness in the air.
I had breakfast(quaker oatmeal & granola bars), and camp coffee(yuck)..with a bit of Khalua in both the coffee and porridge to flavor things up a bit. Good thing I had breakfast when I did.
For less than an hour later, it started to rain.
I retreated to my tent, as it rained heavily for a few hours.
Around 10:30, I couldn't stand it anymore and donned my wet gear and went for a walk.
It was quite miserable out. puddles everywhere, grey skies...however the rain was letting up.
by 1pm the rain stopped but the sun never came out, it was very cool and damp.
Not bad for early October, could've been worse.
A wind started to blow up, and I felt wary of a paddle, I was camp bound.

Getting ready for dinner

Wary of the wind - my canoe was parked all weekend
The rest of the day, I sat around and did nothing. A few times I got up and hunted around for some fungi to study and photograph, and did some reading in the hammock. The usual campsite wildlife showed up that afternoon, chipmunks, a red squirrel, and a rabbit. Rabbits are interesting, unlike chipmunks with their stripes on their backs, they are hard to see when not moving. I spotted this rabbit out of the corner of my eye. Yet when I turned to look directly at the furry rabbit, I couldn't see him. The rabbit had froze upon the mere movement of my head. He blended in very well with the surroundings. I find they are easier to spot along a road...just look for the 'peace' sign(split fingers)of the rabbit's ears.

Autumn Colours after a rainfall

Trails thru the forest - a bug haven in mid-summer
That night I managed to have a small fire going, I had some dehydrated mountain chile for dinner(very good), and some strawberries for desert.
The wind had died down but, I still felt uneasy, about going out in the canoe. My confidence low, I stayed put, and tried to photograph the rising moving, without much success. I went to bed early, before 11pm. The night was uneventful, and once again I had a great sleep. Autumn camping just rocks for sleeping!
