AFA releases 2012-2013 harvesting schedule map

The Algonquin Forest Authority (AFA) has released its yearly harvesting schedule map. The map depicts locations through-out Algonquin Park where logging is to take place on a seasonal basis. The map also displays haulage routes, denoting where noise associated with haulage might occur.

FOAP predicts earlier ice-out than average

This morning an update was posted on the ice-out conditions web page of the FOAP web site (Friends of Algonquin Park). Many people around the 'net have been discussing the possibility of an early ice-out, possibly another record ice-out.

Canoe camping closed Easter Weekend (Trout Opener)

By now, most people have already heard the news: Algonquin Park has announced the closure of interior canoe camping for this year's trout season opener. No backcountry permits will be issued (That require canoe access). All lakes are still ice-covered and with the cold spring, this really comes as no surprise, although I must admit it is still difficult for me to digest this piece of news.

AFA 2011-2012 Harvest Map ]UPDATED]

Shortly after I contacted the AFA and shared my concerns about the omission of road construction zones on the harvest map, I received a reply from Mr. Cumming assuring me that the oversight would be corrected and a new map posted.
Today, I received an update from Mr. Cumming, notifying me that the updated map is now online for download. The web address remains the same and in case you missed it, you can click here to download the map.
